This Family is Just Right ~SOUS February 26~

This Family is Just Right!
This week at Stuck on U Sketches we have a wonderful sketch by our friend Aymee Gandy.
Please check out her blog for lots of crafty fun!
For those of you that come on by nice and early...I forgot to write my text for this post. Oops!
So I will be coming back and editing this for you all.
My 5 year old is going in friday morning to have a small surgery on his tongue so I don't have time now to write but will fix this and finish writing soon!
Please forgive my mistake...I am a little embarressed but we all know that life happens.
Thanks and I'll be on soon to write more!

I wanted to update everyone...we are home now from Scotti's surgery and he is doing really well. The entire staff was impressed with how well he did and I am feeling very proud of him! I think he is doing well...he is watching a truck video and just managed to say..."go big or go home!"
LOL! Ah, thats my boy!
Thank you for all of your well wishes today! I needed it because its pretty hard to see them put out a little child and see and hold their limp little body. But God was with us, as he always is.

Did you notice the broken chair? Darn it Blondie!

Baby Card ~The Cuttlebug Spot~ and a little video

Isla Mechelle

This week at The Cuttlebug Spot we are having a real challenge...double embossing! Nilda has a wonderful tutorial on this technique and you will find that HERE.

Ok so I totally cheated this best crafting compadre Donna came over and graciously let me use the templates she had already slaved over! I do not own (yet) any Nesties so I would have had to get really creative to take part of this challenge (and between you and me, I am not feeling particularly creative this week.) So a BIG thanks girlfriend for your help, plus it was nice to get to visit with you (and Jordie thinks so too!)

My husbands very best (and only) friend (LOL!) just had a baby girl on tuesday. Isla Mechelle. This is my friend Selena's first child and she really really wanted a little girl and she waited until the baby's birth to find out the sex...what a wonderful surprise!

So I made this card for them...

I think that maybe next time I would make the card smaller because after putting it together I think there is too much "empty" space...but thats ok.
Here is a close up of the double embossing action! I chose the "reverse" so the Nesties embossing is actually "up", a really neat look.

I took this in hopes to show how lovely the shimmery paper looks! I used Martha punches for the tiny flowers and butterflies. A little Stickles for flower centers and I called this card done! Of course you look at the end result and think "simple" that just means it took you 2 hours instead of 2 days! LOL! But then again...only us fellow crafters would understand that!

Happy Monday!

Ok so I took this silly little video of baby Cody and wanted to share it because...well it's too stinking cute! LOL! This is Cody at 8 months he sad or is he happy? You be the judge

The World of Cars ~SOUS February 19~

The World of Cars

a Liz Qualman original sketch

We contacted Liz and she was gracious enough to design an original sketch just for Stuck on U Sketches! How totally incredible is that! She really out did herself with this one!

I hope that I did her justice!

I have had these photos for years now but nothing ever seemed right for them. I bought the Cars cart off a friend of mine and finally cracked it open just for this!

You know how I just have to share the story behind the son Scotti has pretty much not gone without a Disney Car in his hand since his 2nd birthday. So for Christmas we bought a case of Cars off the internet and displayed them on a board wrapped with paper. There was one large sheet of wrapping paper covering it and when he pulled it off there was 25+ cars! It was quite a site!

The world of Cars, trophy, traffic cone, Guido and the road are all cuts from the Cars cart.

Man oh man, these cars are so hard to cut that I am afraid to even try a more difficult car. I ended up cutting this in white. Only the tires and top blue layers were cut with the cricut. All the other 'pieces' were colored with pen or colored pencil, then inked.

All the paper is from DCWV's Retro Stack. I would say this is my all time favorite! I just LOVE it! This photo also shows the paper border punches I used, a ticket and binder paper punch. Also the 'wheels' are a Martha punch. 'Boys will be boys' and 'Limitless' were cut from the paper stack.

Last photo is a close up to show Scotti and his big Christmas present! Vroom Vroom!

Thanks again Liz for this wonderful sketch!

Altered Frig Frames ~The Cuttlebug Spot~

Altered Frames

So this was a pretty easy and fun project to do. My MIL had given me a couple frames from Old Navy and there they sat on my frig (photo-less I may add).

When Nilda chose this project idea for this week at TCS, I thought these would be perfect!

I wanted to do a little gift, that was in time for Valentines Day, as a thank you to one of the mom's at my son's school. The great part is that the class are the busy bees and I had some black and white bee paper so it will remind her of our class connection!

I also made a card to match with the left over flowers and I think it all turned out pretty cute!

My sweet friend Donna gave me this limited edition CB folder for Christmas and I thought it would add a neat texture to this card and to some of the flowers as well.
I nervously hand wrote the sentiment on the front with a white gel pen and a little doodling. Boy that could have turned out bad! LOL!

Now onto the flowers....

Some of these did not photograph too well showing the added texture by using the CB folders but it really does just add another dimension to them...

Black branches are a Martha punch...

I used the Icicle Stickles on the flowers....

And inked these up well with Black Soot, Brick Red and Vintage Photo distress inks....

Each flower is different because I got to play with them as I did them..experimenting with each design! All pieces were cut with a punch, which was great and easy. Perfect since the inking took some time.
I cut around the edges of some, tried folding techniques with others, or just wrinkled them all up! I could not believe how fun they were to put together...makes me want to make my own garden!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look this week!
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

And thank you Justin for my Easter cart for Valentines Day even if I asked how much it cost...I liked it but I really liked the card even more. Love ya! (but my gift to you was better, no?)

SO Fabulous ~SOUS February 12~

SO Fabulous

Well we have yet another sketch from the so fabulous Liz Qualman. She is a scrapbooker herself and a wonderful sketch artist (I have yet to see something she has done that I do not like!) Please, if you haven't so far, go check her out!

Oh no, I almost forgot to share the exciting news for SOUS this week..we have our very first Guest Designer...Magical Wanda! Please check out her blog if you have not, she is amazing!

This is a special LO to me because it is my first one with just my niece Maddie. I was there for her birth and have taken care of her since she was a toddler. She is more a sister to my kids then a cousin. What cracks me up is how similar some of her sassy faces are to my daughter Jordyn. Family ties! LOL! And she will soon be performing in her first play! I am so proud of her! 9 years old is looking pretty big to me!

onto the LO....printed paper is K&Co. Solid cardstock and glitter cardstock is DCWV.

Butterfly and So Fabulous are cuts from Graphically Speaking. Everything else is a mish mash of my supplies. There were some subtle details here that I had fun adding. Little dots of silver metallic pen. A rubber stamp with a distressed splatter look (you can see that better on the solid pieces of paper in the next 2 photos). Rhinestones on brads. And my funky black fiber.

I added the next few photos because well...we know how much we love to see more photos! LOL! Its great to see the whole LO but we'd miss the details if it were not for these extra's...

I could not believe how gorgeous the title came out! I (again) used my grungepaper and then layered the DCWV glitter cardstock on top of it. It all cut perfectly and added a ton to the page!

And well...we'll call it a day! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and please check out what my friends did at SOUS with this very same sketch!

Love Bugs Altered Mailbox ~TCS Challenge~

Love Bugs
Altered Mailbox

What a fun challenge this week for The Cuttlebug Spot! I have to tell you all that I have not done very much in terms of altering, but I do think it is so much fun and I am glad I have the chance to do it for these challenges!

Thank you to my girlfriend Donna for the mailbox, as I am sure you've all seen them, they are from Target (though all of my shopping to local T's, I have never seen them there!)

I knew right away that I wanted this to be a special place where each year I could write a letter to my kids for Valentines Day (or VansDay as my little Jordie is calling it! LOL!) After that and with this being red...the love bug idea was pretty natural.

I hand cut on a transparency for the wings (well first cut on regular paper and then traced it). Embossed with Divine Swirls. I used a technique by my girlfriend Sandy for the wings. She did a tutorial (you'll find that HERE) for butterflies at our site Stuck on U Sketches, I used the same idea here. It is a wonderful idea and as you can see can be changed up a bit to fit many different projects. It is hard to see but on the opposite side I used a silver metallic pen and added dots along the swirls, then Stickles on top! The lady bug spots were also embossed with the CB but not with what you'd expect! I used the christmas ornament folder and choice the ornament that had larger sized circles on it, I placed my circles there and embossed (or rather my helper Jordyn did all those, and by helper I mean, its actually was helpful~ shocking I know!)

I included a photo of that embossing folder and you can clearly see that ornament...I really like this idea and wish I would have thought of it before (I always want to emboss small areas but never like the designs...well now I know I can find different ones within ones I own!)

Fun wire was used for the antenna's, I used a tiny hole punch which went through the metal and taped the piece down on the inside. Added a little ribbon as well.

I didn't realized until now that my photo of the "love bugs" didn't turn out well but its too late now! LOL! I hand cut these to fit and stamped using mini letters from the dollar section at M's.
(and if you pay very close attention you can kinda sorta see those silver dots on the wings)

Last but not least...three little lady bugs representing the 3 little bug-a-boo's are mine! Cut is from Doodlecharms (yes I wanted to use these again after that last LO because they are a very favorite cut of mine!) The red wings were cut on white core cardstock so I distressed the edges very lightly, added white gel pen doodling and hearts that were punched with a heart hole punch. (something that's sat in my stash and never been used!)

Baby Love ~ SOUS February 5th~ and Baby Shower card

Baby Love

Ok so I am going to try and be better (and now that I know how to) at posting the sketches along with my projects. This weeks sketch is by one of our favorites, Beggahuna.

Before I go into the LO...these are birth photos of all of my children. Cody, Scotti and Jordyn. Not in order of birth but because I needed to crop the one of Scotti, it looked better in the middle and gave me a spot on the side to put their names. I was just a little sad doing this LO because, well, as many of you know Scotti is adopted and the nurse in the hospital would not let me take photos of Scotti. Pretty much by the time we got into the hospital he was here so I went right in and was the first to hold him. We then took him to the nursery where I stayed with him until we took him home. Just he and I and a rocking chair in the corner. Since they didn't allow me to take pictures I don't have much from his first day (just a few treasured ones)...this photo being one of them. And of course the beautiful very first photos of Jordyn and Cody, which melt my heart each time I see them (ohhhh its bringing on tears!!!)

onto the LO...enough of my silliness...I loved and enjoyed the bones of this LO but struggled when it came to embellishing this. With the part that I wanted to open (see next picture) it made embellishing over it difficult, as I could not put anything coming off of that part. After a lot of designing and editing and deleting on DS this is what I came up with.

This shows how the entire section folds up to reveal a place for lots of journaling, a little hand made embellishment and an extra photo of my newborn Scotti.

Baby Love was cut from All Mixed Up. I really like that cart because it offers 3 layers to the lettering!

I had a few different techniques for the squares. Some were sanded, distressed with an edge distresser, embossed and inked. Some also had faux stitching.

Ok last shot! Showing what I did with the cuts from New Arrival. I think the animals on that cart are totally freaky but I do like what else it has to offer!

guess I will mention now that we have CANDY over at SOUS, so please if you want some goodies...go leave a comment for a chance to win and if you post a get in there twice! how nice!

Its a Boy!

Woo Hoo, bonus project for today!

My friend Katie is having a baby boy and I am going to her baby shower on saturday. She was my older sisters best friend and I used to cry to her at school because some boys were always mean to me! So she is like a sister to me! This is her first child and I am just thrilled for her!

Cuts are from Zooballoo, a total favorite of mine! I embossed the die cut card and added a ribbon.

One last photo for today showing the layering and dimension of the birds and branch.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and please stop in at SOUS to see what my other GF's have done with this sketch!

Bee-utiful ~The Cuttlebug Spot~

So this weeks challenge is to use a product from 3M. I had a pack of photo paper by Post It. I did try it with the printer but the photo quality was awful so here I decided to go ahead and directly emboss it. The product could be good if you were to be printed text but not photos, unless perhaps you were doing black and white, but I am not sure. Either way, of course for crafting we kinda need it to stick...and uh, stay. So I had to use extra adhesive. Not too sure we will need this new line of paper in papercrafts....

The stamps are from a line carried at Joann's. Not sure the name of the line as I took everything out of the packaging. I do know it is a value set that comes with a block as well as an ink pad. Of course I picked it up bee-cause I loved the little bees! I embossed the butterflies white on white. The bees and word were embossed with distress embossing powder and the pearls are Liquid Pearl (by Ranger). The card has a bit of a different feel to it with the shiny versus ruff texture of the embossing but I kinda of like it! Looks like a short and sweet post for today! LOL!

Please take a chance to go see what everyone else has done at The Cuttlebug Spot. Nilda has changed the rules and all you have to do is leave a comment to be considered for the weekly giveaway! Hope you'll come by!
