You Are Out of This World ~Scrap with V~

You Are Out Of This World

I am excited to be doing my first tutorial for Scrap With V! I made a small card set and wanted to show how you can use your stamps to make a coordinating background paper.

You want to start by going through your stamps and finding some coordinating images. You want a large focal image and then something secondary to match, you may want to do smaller but that depends on what you like, but smaller will look better in the background.

These photos are a couple examples of sets that can easily be used for this technique.

I started with stamping my image on black cardstock and embossing with white embossing powder. Colored pencils on black cardstock just looks so cool! Before coloring your main image try some test colors on the black because not every color looks right on the black, so play a little before doing the real thing.
I also stamped in Frost Versamark with a small star stamp, adding just a little something to the focal image.

Okay, okay, before you look at this and think its a hot mess..it is, LOL, but the edges are clear even if there was some embossing powder that stuck to the inside (remember it will be covered and only showing the edges.) Make sure to rotate the stamped image around the outside edge so it has an appearance of being more like real printed paper. Here I embossed again with white powder, the embossing adds so much more to this technique!

This time I stamped and embossed black onto white cardstock and cut it out. Cut little addition to the inside!

I totally forgot to get a good photo of these before giving one away so here is quick photo I took with my cell phone. Not perfect but you can see the complete set!

Something simple but oh so cool..makes me excited to pull out more of my stamps and try more for making my own backgrounds!!!

I also want to say that I recognize that I have hit 200 followers on my blog and I am sooo thrilled! I had absolutely no idea what blogging meant and what it would entail but I am so pleased to be able to share here and also by way of working on DT's. And mostly, I am so grateful for the friendships I have made and I am tickled beyond belief that so many of you enjoy my projects (or is it my wit and charm? LOL!)
Either way! Thanks all!

Also coming by to thank Jane for the AMAZING candy I won on her lovely blog! A Cricut cart and some gorgeous Prima's! Thank you SO much Jane! You can check her out HERE!

Have A Great Day ~She's a Sassy Lady~

Hey Hey!
Today is my post day for She's a Sassy Lady and you can find this tutorial running other there as well! I hope you like...I certainly enjoyed making it...

And now onto the tutorial...

First on your work surface (I am using a mat but glass is great as well) press your ink, preferably Distress Inks for this, directly onto the mat.

You will then mist with water, using something like Mini Mister works the best because they give a small amount of water unlike most regular sized water misters. Then take any embossing folder and walk the folder around the wet ink. Taking care to rotate and move the folder so it will pick up all the colors. This is were you will want to do a test piece, because each time it will look different and depending on what side of the embossing folder you use, will be different as well. So try a couple things, and remember, save those samples for another project!

Its hard to tell here what the embossing looks like but you can see the color picked up into my canvas. Now this did not turn out perfectly, I should have used more color and moved it around the colors more. But the reason I want to show you my not perfect version is to see that we all try things and they don't always work out just as we want..but still do-able!

I then chose 2 more colors of Distress Ink to color the top portion of the embossing which brings that out more! So there is color in the debossed area as well as the embossed.

At this step you will want to choose a stamp that has some open background. This is hard to explain but seeing the stamp inked below will give you a better idea. See where there is detail but the majority is black or solid.

Here is the stamp now stamped directly onto the canvas.

And then the stamp, with left over ink, stamped onto card stock. I did NOT reink. By stamping first onto the canvas, it left this neatest texture on the solid part of the stamp. This is also referred to as a "kissing" technique in stamping but instead of 2 stamps, I used canvas to get that texture.

Next step I did the same thing as I did in the very beginning. I pressed Distress Inks onto my mat, spritzed with water and then I used them like watercolor. ( Distress Ink colors: Bundled Sage, Shabby Shutters, Broken China, Spun Sugar and Dusty Concord)

And lastly...putting together the card!
I decided I would use the canvas as an accent piece on the card, and of course I saved the left overs after hand cutting leaves (which I then pulled at the edges to get that great texture from the canvas). I backed the canvas piece with black card stock to bring it out a bit more, added a black Prima and some gems. I also used my scoring board to score lines around the white of the card for some small added detail.

Hope you all like! xoxo, Leah

Love Is All About You ~SOUS March 18~

Love Is All About You

Hello my Stuck on U Sketch fans! LOL!

Well today we've got a great sketch for you (you know where to go and find it! hehe) and also a ton of inspiration from one of the best challenges teams out there!!! And even better (just kidding) we've got CANDY!!!! Check it out....so go on back to SOUS and get the details there!!!

Today is also an exciting day in my house! Tomorrow Grandma and Grandpa are flying here to pick up ALL 3 of my children and FLY them back to Las Vegas! While my husband and I go on a ROAD TRIP! It will have been years (sad, but true) since we had that much time together, alone. I'll take lots of photos, I'm sure, of the whole trip! We're going for awhile...and the boys are going to Monster Jam World Finals (while I go shopping!)

I'd also like to say a big....

Happy Birthday to my sweet little girl who turn 5 this weekend!

This little layout is of Jordyn around 2 years old.

The beautiful background paper is K&Co. The blue card stock is Bazzill. My handmade flowers are Tattered Florals die (TH). These are inked and sprayed with a homemade shimmer mist using Perfect Pearls. Brads are Basic Grey.

This page is a serious mix of things from my stash. Dragonfly stamps ($1 from M's), green Prima flowers, other Prima's. Wire. Martha butterfly punches.

I don't do too many flowery pages so this was a chance for me to play with making my own. Because of the design of the page I decided to have the flowers and such cascade across the page. Really had a good time with this one! Hope it shows!

Well wish me luck! Of course I'll have a computer with me so I'll come by and visit blogs when I can! Have a good one my lovely friends!

Say Cheese ~Scrap with V~

Say Cheese

Today is my first day for sketch challenges at Scrap With V! Nice! I have joined a big, crafty family over there and there is a ton of inspiration! A ton! The girls are awesome...to take a peek, join in...Ness always has some great goodies to give away!

Title is from Create a Critter. Small polka dot (on cheese) is a stamp from Papertrey Ink. Camera stamp by Imaginisce (colored with pencils and Glossy Accents).

Mousie (as is the cheese cut at different sizes and colors from Imagine) is from Country Life. Tickets are from Papertrey Ink and background stamp is Maya Road. Blue rope border is Bo Bunny.

Oh gosh...I hand stitched the sides, that was awful...LOL!

This photo shoot (now who was photographing who?) was darling and so fun! I have this page up in the house and Cody loves to see it, point at it and say his baby babble! My little love! I'll see you all later this week for the sketch at SOUS and then I am off this weekend to Las Vegas to stay with the in-laws! I need a vacay!

Timeless ~Scrap with V Kit~

This is my first project for Scrap With V! All the products are offered in a kit and you can make this project or anything you'd like! You can find the details here at the store!

The great chipboard pieces are from A2Z Scraplet, Creative Imagination papers, Prima flowers and Kaiser ribbon and more!

I enhanced the chipboard by stamping with a Champagne Versamark, so some parts shimmer. And inks with Broken China and Shabby Shutters. Also some dash lines with a white gel pen.

If you've by I am sure at some point you've seen some photo float around of me when I had my septum pierced. That's long gone. LOL! I'm not nearing as holey as I used to be! LOL! But this little photo is of me outside our condo in Maui on my honeymoon. I was really tan, really blonde and really skinny! =) I guess this is my first official wedding festivities page I've done! I have 2 years to have them all completed as a 10 year wedding gift to my hubby!

Have a good one ladies!

You Are My Sunshine ~Generations Crafting~

hey guys. just wanted to come by and put out a prayer request. because there are times in life when all you can do is just pray. my Mom's been admitted into the hospital again, kidney stones, amongst other things going on..I am going to care for her tonight. any prayers for her would be wonderful and keep them coming because she's going to need them for awhile. thanks friends!

You Are My Sunshine

And as promised, one more project using Echo Parks new Springtime collection...

Wow, really, sometimes these scene pages really can take a lot of the guess work out of a page. Which is sometimes really nice! I like that my photos had some green and pink in them and thought that was great for this paper. The rest was really just embellishing the page and having fun using the coordinating stickers.

Both the sun and tree were the exact same size, the print and the stickers so I layered them and popped them! I did add another layer of grass at the bottom and used more flower stickers from the line.

Simple and sweet! Sometimes a nice change of pace in the scrapping world...
Thanks for looking!

Echo Park Springtime ~Generations Crafting~

Wine Bottle Topper

I had the chance to play with some of Echo Park's new line, Springtime. Really the prettiest shades in this line. Lots and lots of possibilities, check it out here! I brought this bottle of wine over to my sister's house last week for her birthday. I posted this and the next project together because both are the first times for me playing much with doing banners. I really see why they are so popular...they are just darling!

I came across these photos and thought they went so well with the line. I am trying to figure out how old Jordyn was in these photos, I think under 2?

I used a journaling card from the line and added BG Bloomers. I hadn't used these yet but they were great colors for this line!!! I added some leaves from the stickers and punched leaves as well.

Also in their element stickers they had this banner. The banner was straight across so I cut small slits in between them and that gave me just enough room to lay it on an angle.

And come back thursday because I'll have one more layout using this line...thanks!

A new DT for me and an Imagine card

Well I am so happy to be announcing that I will joining a new DT! I am lucky to be joining a team with such talented ladies but also to be working for a great friend of mine...thank you Ness for having me at Scrap With V!

Ness has her own shop in Australia, her home country! How awesome is that? You can check out the store here.

Now as part of her DT I will be doing a monthly sketch, some tutorials and also be making a project with her kit...the page, instructions and products will be available at Scrap With V. Aussie's first store to offer page kits! Coolness!

Now I have a little card I've done for my younger sister turning 25 this month. I am sure she'll like this one...reminds me so much of her! This is using Imagine cart, Yummy. The blue cloud paper is from a Cosmo Cricket cart called Hopscotch, love that Provo was smart enough to get a great designer like Cosmo Cricket to do some of the patterns!

I added some embossing (Tim Holtz), random ribbon (which most of mine is), small Prima and some bling. Small sentiment stamp is Papertrey Ink, Just the Ticket. And lots of pink and blue inking!

Hey so you know what I realized while making this...its such a quick way of making a card! I mean, really quick! Because there is no paper choices and cutting, pulling paper off, cutting, etc etc. This just goes a lot more quickly on the Imagine. So you can make great looking cards in a shorter amount of time. Now...I can't say that for layouts because I haven't done too much with that yet...need to get motivated to do so! =)

Again, Ness, thank you for the chance to work with you! Hugs across the seas!

I Treasure You ~SOUS March 4~

I Treasure You

So we may have a love hate relationship with our very own craft projects but this one turned out so very special for me! The photo itself is beyond a treasure and I so wanted a special page for it. I think this may be the most awful case of following a sketch (refer to SOUS because I'm too ashamed to post the actually sketch here) I've ever done but I needed to remember that its for inspiration and doesn't always need to be followed so carefully, so really the inspiration comes from the paper layering in the original sketch...this page had a mind of its own! =)

And before I go any further...please let me welcome back one of SOUS original creators, Sandy Windsor! Thank you so much Sandy for coming to SOUS to Guest Designer for us, we are SO pleased and tickled to have you here again! Miss you so much friend! Click quick back to SOUS and see what she did this week!

The stunning shell paper is from DCWV Four Season's stack (a gift from my sister at Christmas, I thought it was really cute she bought me craft supplies!) I fussy cut the shells and the title piece from one sheet and layered over the muted shell print. Basic Grey letters for my titles and Crackle Accents.

This was a really neat page to put together. I can for sure say this is one that just continued to evolve. Because at the start it was all wrong and I was worried sick about it. You can see on the cream background that I embossed stripes (using Scor Pal) on the paper and then inked it, I like how that looked like a wooden walkway down to the beach. The photo frame is handmade paper and has such a warm, soft look.

The rest of the layering was just digging through my stash and adding more and more, here and there! I adore how it turned out and the small details like folding a Prima in half and tucking them around the page, the white really popping as a neat detail.

I'm a little late in thinking about this now but I should have pulled the tags out and shared these with you as well. I did some stamping with this page. The 3 tags though only 2 actually pull out. I also thought they balanced the heavily embellishment on the left side of the page with something interesting and also gave me an important area to talk about what the beach has meant to our family...

I think this is about the second or third time I have used tone on tone letters for a second title. I love how subtle a detail it is but also how it adds just a little something more, again with Crackle Accents. You can also see some more stamping I did with the clouds on the blue background (blue and cream papers are Basic Grey). The light blue cloud was cute and reused from the glittery shell paper.

This page is so special to me that I've actually kept it up so far and haven't put it away (away meaning in with a massive stack of pages without a home). LOL! I hope you love this as well and can see what it means to me. Funny because when something like this turns out so well it makes me feel better about the projects that turn out, so-so. Know what I mean?

Okay well make sure to stop by SOUS and see what our fabulous DT has done with the sketch...and I'll guess you'll be able to see the sketch a little better in at least a few other them! LOL! Take care and thanks again Sandy for joining us!

Space In My Heart 4 You ~Generations Crafting~

Space in my Heart 4 You

I have one more layout with Bo Bunny Blast Off to share with you. I hope you like and that you take a second to scroll down to yesterday's post because I have another project with this line to share with you.

Wow, I about freaked when I saw how perfect this photo turned out! =o) And I didn't even mean it! LOL! I was standing outside and took the picture looking into the kitchen. No idea why it ended up so good! hahaha! Maybe its something to do with that handsome subject...

So...a very special page, again, maybe my FAVORITE to date projects I have done for Floren at Generations Crafting! Thank you SO much for the opportunity to work for you!

I fussy cut this large planet and used it for my title area. I also used an embossing pen to add detail to the rings around the planet, embossed with a silver tinsel powder. Letter stickers are Echo Park and Basic Grey. Large bling came from the Blast Off Wraps.

This guy...he may be on my list of my FAV's done with my Cricut! Cut from Boys Will Be Boys. Each layer (white, red and green) was cut and layered over chipboard so the piece is heavy and could almost be a toy! j/k! The glitter brads and gems are part of the coordinating line as well! (Thanks Nanne for brain storming with me on this page, and for the addition of the little heart on the robot!) Mr Robot's arms is from Wraps.

Hello gorgeous....(and I mean Scotti, not the aliens...come on!!!)

And lastly my journaling spot...sorry about all the pix but there was a lot to show!!!!

And keep in mind that you can always find exact product names in the gallery at Generations Crafting if you are looking for something specific that I may not have mentioned.

Fly Up, Up and Away ~Generations Crafting~

Fly Up, Up and Away

So Bo Bunny has a new line out called Blast Off...I am WAY in love and Generations Crafting has all those goodies! There are for sure some strong icon prints but also some great geometric and a ton of star prints, which I find are hard to find. Before I get into this...I took these awesome photos of Scotti in the backyard. He was doing jumps off his small ramp. He rides so much that he's killed a line across the grass in the back! LOL! Its worth it because it makes him so happy! He was so darling, so so so sweet when I showed this to him. I said "Scotti, I made this for you"..."Oh thanks Mommy! Can I put it up in my room?" Okay so more then likely it has everything to do with the fact that he loves the photos but still...LOL!

I started off with Distress Crackle Paint in Picket Fence on the paper and photo edges. I fussy cut a ton of things from the papers...all the rockets! I used a mix between their brads and jewels.

Here you can see I used some rub on stars and then did some doodling in a white gel pen.

I also used the Wraps from this line. It came with 3 different things plus a huge bling, this alien chipboard and a pearl stick pin! Really neat!

Fly was cut from Boys Will Be Boys and welded together using the Gypsy. I also inked all the cuts with white chalk ink and did some stitch lines here as well. They is a ton of great texture on this page...always reminds me about how important that is, what it can do for a project!

Make sure to come back because I have another Blast Off project to share with you...I'll put that up on wednesday...so I don't overwhelm with photos in one post! LOL! Hope you like!!!!!!
