Quiet Valley

 Hey there, hi there!
We have a special treat today and another hop for Stuck on U Sketches...this time with the great Whimsical Wednesday blog! I had the pleasure of being on the team some time ago...very fun! So I'm glad to be doing a hop with them this time around!

We are also lucky enough to have some sponsors for the hop Prairie Bird Boutique, you'll receive some gorgeous crinkle ribbon and from SK digi's a shopping voucher for the store! Cool, right? Thanks so much for those awesome prizes ladies!

On the hop you should be coming from Sandi's blog? In the right place? If not, the hop list will be at the bottom of the post...hopefully you are on track since our hop just started! LOL!

You'll find the sketch at SOUS (where the hop is beginning) so check that out over there...otherwise let's get to my page!

This was from a year ago when my hubby and I got a glorious couple nights away to beautiful Yosemite. There was pretty much not a soul there and though it was cold, there wasn't snow and therefore not too bad. We got a hike in and even had some snuggle time along the was one of the most peaceful trips I've ever had...

Here are the goodies I used...

Bo Bunny Forever Fall
Echo Park Times & Seasons
Distress Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Forest Moss
Paint daubers in brown and white
Echo Park Times & Seasons
Canvas Corp, canvas and cork
Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die
Tim Holtz tiny attacher and memo pin, washi tape
brads, Recollections leaves

Ok, let's get you folks moving, thanks for coming by. I'd super love to have you follow me if you like! ;)

Next stop on the hop is the always fabulous Nanne

Practiced Pin: Funfetti Dip, Banana Bread and Lemon Cookies

Practiced Pin

Hi friends! Hope every one is doing well!
I have been wanting to start sharing some recipes with you all for awhile and decided, today is the day! Most of my recipes do come from Pinterest. I can't tell you how amazing that site has been for me! Totally changed my eating life! I used to spend hours and hours trying to search the web for recipes and then after starting up on Pinterest realized that was the place to find all those recipes! Yay!

So I thought I would start some new posts on my blog about what I've actually MADE for pinning. Not just isn't that a thought! LOL!  Hence the post title....practiced (because I actually DID it) and pin since the recipe came from there!

First up is Funfetti Cake Dip! I've already handed this recipe out to the other mom's at school! I made this to share at a party and all the children (and parents) sat around this bowl! It is a must for any occasion that's going to have kiddo's around! All the recipes are the same, pretty much, but thought I'd still share the link below.

I used this recipe from Eat Yourself Skinny. Funfetti Cake Dip
The only change is that I used nonfat vanilla yogurt because it was on sale. It was still delish! I also used more sugar free Cool Whip then the recipe called for (using up what was left in the container). What I did not read in the recipes....warning....this makes a TON of dip! You'll have a ton left over or you can get little containers and share them with whomever else is at the party.
Next time I have this I'll serve it with fruit!

Oh...these cookies! I made them during Christmas, just after finally getting over scarlett fever! These are now one of my all time favorite cookies!

Lemon Crinkle Cookies , I followed the recipe but found it didn't make all that many cookies...if you want to eat them like I want to. So anytime I make these I'll just go ahead and double the recipe! =) But really...apparently award winning recipe! Go them! =)  Took me awhile to realize what LDS was. Duh.

And the Buttermilk Banana Bread, I've been making banana bread for years using my mom's recipe which is pretty much the same as the link, I am sharing the link though because this was the first time using buttermilk...omg! Best banana bread ever! I did tweek it though so I'll share what I did (my changes will be color coded).

3 cups flour
½ tsp salt
1½ tsp baking powder
1½ tsp baking soda
½ cup chopped pecans (optional) I can't stand adding nuts to baked goods
2 cups sugar
½ cup unsalted butter
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk (or substitute 1 cup milk with juice of one lemon) only used buttermilk
5 - 6 very ripe bananas I always end up adding more since our banana's are always huge
I've also added a tsp of vanilla. I believe that vanilla makes the world a better place.
And 2 heaping spoon fulls of orange juice frozen concentrate. (the stuff in the can found in the freezer section of the grocery store). The bread does not taste like orange, but somehow it adds another level to the bread! Gotta try it!

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.  Prepare two loaf pans by buttering and lining with parchment paper.
You may ask yourself, as I did. Why butter the pan and still add paper? Well first, don't "butter" just use a cooking spray, way easier. The spray or butter helps to keep the paper in place. Finally had that light bulb moment to figure that one out!
Sift or whisk flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.  Add pecans if using, then set aside. In a separate bowl, cream sugar and butter. Mix in eggs, one at a time, then add the bananas. Add dry ingredients and buttermilk, alternating until incorporated.  Try to end with the dry ingredient addition, and be sure not to over mix.
Bake in buttered loaf pans for one hour or until toothpick comes out clean.
I don't know if it's because of my grande banana's but this always makes a ton of bread. Sometimes I will cook this in a 9x13 pan and cut into smaller pieces and thaw, but normally I cook these in 9x9 pans. Why? Because I don't have regular loafs pans. So there. I also cooked at a bit higher temp, 325. And checked after 20 minutes and added minutes until I it looked right. Toothpicks can lie.

Well I hope you all try these out!
I honestly have so much more to share with you all, can't wait!

See you back on Friday for the Stuck on U Sketches and Whimsical Wednesday blog hop!

Happy Day

If you are looking for my Stuck on U Sketches post, you can find that here!

So guys, I really think I've finally found my stride and have been having the most wonderful time creating! There was a bit of a time when I had to force myself to make something...
I know so much of that has to do with having a new crafty space and having it setup to access everything more easily!

Well since I have indeed been creating I have another layout to share with you all today for Artful Delights February sketch.

Going to keep this a shorty in text....hope you don't all mind! Surely you won't! =)

Distress Vintage Photo and Peeled Paint
Distress Stickles Vintage Photo, Shabby Shutters, Fired Brick, Faded Jeans

And I've just got a couple challenges to add this to as well...perfectly for....

#1 Teacher ~SOUS Die Cut Challenge Write!~

#1 Teacher

So I guess I have always loved I child I would find games or things to do that included paper. I'd cut jewelry ads out and organize them and play store, or I'd use sheet after sheet of paper and get all the play phones out and play "operator". I'd have yarns tied to thumb tacks and write messages and transfer "lines". I also would ask for office supplies for every holiday! Ends up that I love to write as well! Journals, notes...just love the act of writing! I am such a note/list maker!

 Good memories.

All that was the inspiration for the newest Die Cut Challenge over at Stuck on U Sketches...

I also LOVE myself some of these themed die cuts along this line and was super excited to work with this idea I had! I had also thought that I should of done this exact design and scrapped my own love of paper and writing...but as usual, the kids won out!

We R Memory Keepers Hall Pass
papers, borders, embossed stickers and tags (all from the set)
date only, Echo Park
Silhouette Cameo- Echo Park Pen, Pencil and Paintbrush (no paintbrush though)
(Papers~ Bazzil Dotted Swiss and card stock)
Want 2 Scrap and Craftaroo- gems and pearls
O'Scrap extra large brads

Best part of this layout is that I actually was able to create it on a day when my whole family was home! Hubby included! You all know that's rare! Plus, I also made homemade chicken broth and lemon chicken and spinach pasta! =)

Oh, I won't be around this weekend...we are hitting the road for Great Grandma and Great Grandpa's 65th wedding anniversary! Isn't that wonderful! I can't wait to see my husband's family and his awesome cousins. Makes me wish so badly we lived closer...would be such a blessing to have both sides of the family in one place. But I'll settle for a small road trip, hope the kids are good! Wish me luck!

 See you all soon then....

These Are The Days

These Are The Days

 What is up my people!
Hope you are all doing fantastic!
I've been a busy Momma lately with lots of baking and cooking and creating projects!
I noticed that I must have been hibernating these last months and knew I needed a change this year. So each day I am trying to make count, no more sitting on my butt. No more spending all day of FB (which I'm kinda new to for the most part). So each day I find a project to do, something to reorganize. I work til nap time, have lunch and then create until it's time to pick the big kids up from school. It's been a great routine! And my house looks great!
And how dare I forgot to mention...that for Lent, I gave up sweets and TV. God probably doesn't want us making a big deal of "hey what did you give up?" but still fun to see what people do, or don't do. And most importantly, for awhile now I am really getting into reading the Bible. Cause, isn't that the point? Ok...moving right along...getting a lil' chatty now....

Basic Grey Gypsy (no clue how old this line is!)
Pink Paislee Hometown Summer
(girl, watermelon and popsicle (tone on tone stamping on pink background)(see above)
Hampton Art-sentiment
Distress Tumbled Glass, Black Soot
Distress Stickles Picket Fence, Black Soot
Stickles Baby Pink
black embossing powder
black pearls

Love You With All My Heart ~SOUS February 15 Sketch~

Love You With All My Heart

Hi amigo's! Que pasa? Hope everyone is doing extra fine on this Friday! Not sure about you folks but the kiddo's have an extra long weekend, Friday through Monday off. I'm babysitting and having some friend time today and otherwise have an uneventful weekend. So looking forward to that! We'll have some beautiful weather so hopefully we can get outdoors!

I'm so excited to share this project with you all! Created using my sketch for Stuck on U Sketches.
I tried and tried to find a shape that would stretch correctly around both of these photos but just couldn't find anything. The great part about designing a layout using any kind of electronic cutter is having design software. Sadly though it didn't work out for at least that part of the sketch. I still stuck with the design by having a different panel under the photos. But moving along...

My Minds Eye- Love Me
Basic Grey (blue swirl)
Glitz Sparrow (using solid b side)
Silhouette Store- title, thin arrows and hearts (all resized for heart layer in title piece)
Distress Pumice Stone, Worn Lipstick
Diamond Stickles, Tuttifrutti.
Assortment of gems

Cute, right? And perfect for something a lil' Valentine's Day! I pulled those 2 photos out and cried...hehe! Such a Mommy moment! But I miss those little ones...having kids close together stinks because those moments are gone so much more quickly!

Ok, see ya in a bit....
